Reiki

'Reiki'

The word ‘Reiki’ (pronounced Ray-Kee) is made up of two Japanese characters: ‘Rei’ meaning universe, or Spirit, and ‘Ki’, meaning energy, the whole literally meaning ‘universal life energy’. Reiki is a natural energy healing system that is very simple, very gentle, and has no side effects - it is a treatment that can be helpful for anybody at all - any age, any physical or mental health condition, at any time. Reiki helps to balance a person from within, aiding every aspect; the physical, emotional, mental and even spiritual. It eases all types of troubles and helps to clear and soothe the mind, and leave a person feeling calm and relaxed. Reiki is a holistic approach, taking into account the welfare of the whole person, and not just the immediate concern. It helps the body's healing processes, the mind to de-clutter, de-stress and calm, and the emotions to be released and re-balanced.

Reiki energy can help to clear and cleanse the root cause of any problems being experienced, as well as the symptoms. It works in conjunction with the chakra points on the body, releasing any stuck energy or blocks, re-energising and re-aligning them so that the whole of the body, mind and spirit are in harmony and complete balance. Reiki has an accumulative effect, so it may take several sessions or more to begin to feel a difference, depending on the specific nature of the problem. Regular Reiki healing helps to keep the recipient completely balanced, calm and relaxed on all levels, easing pain and speeding up the body's natural healing process. A Reiki session is gentle, effective, calming and very relaxing.

Reiki is a wonderful, natural energy healing for the mind, the body and the soul. A Reiki healing works through with the practitioner placing their hands on or above the recipient to let natural, vital energy flow to the client, helping to heal whatever may be an issue with a person, be it physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. There is no manipulation of the body involved. The calming and rejuvenating energy of Reiki is helpful in lifting spirits, de-stressing the mind and soothing troubles away.

We all have times in our lives when things don’t go to plan and circumstances get beyond our control. We can become stressed, feel tired all the time, or upset about personal issues going on in our lives. Reiki is simple and gentle, and so a session can simply help us to relax and experience whatever happens within that space, without judgement or any requirement from us.

Reiki healing complements any other type of healing - it is safe and natural, and is a wonderful addition to conventional medication and treatments, and other complementary therapies.

What Happens During A Session of Reiki?

The practitioner places their hands either on or just above the recipient’s head and body. The client is always fully clothed during the session. If you do not like being touched at all, Reiki can be conducted with the practitioner's hands being just above the body. I like to think of Reiki as similar to meditation: that is, the effects that we feel are as if meditation is happening with and for you, in the space held by the practitioner. The energy that we feel, or connect with, simply aligns the receiver's own energy, mind and body, on all levels - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. This helps to bring the whole of the person back into a more balanced and healthy state of well-being.

The practitioner will place their hands wherever they feel they need to go, often (but not always) moving first from the head, down the body towards the feet. They may also work on the back as well. The person receiving Reiki will hopefully feel relaxed, and may feel or sense movement or energy moving, or other sensations, such as warmth or tingling. Sometimes, Reiki can bring out an emotional reaction, and this is simply the realignment of one's energy occurring. This is it - a simple connectuon of energy, to bring about a more relaxed and peaceful state of well-being.
